If you're buying a residential property with a backyard barn, chances are you can obtain a normal homeowner policy through an insurance company of your choice. Be prepared, however, to answer questions that you might not have encountered before. Questions such as sporting hobbies, number and breeds of dogs you own, etc. are becoming common queries due to some insurers' claims that there are inherent dangers in certain lifestyle choices.

If you are farming or into equestrian endeavors, your insurance needs will be quite different from an ordinary homeowner. You'll want to find insurance companies that deal in livestock and farm equipment and the liability that accompanies a farm.
Don't forget insurance on your valuable animals, as well!
